James W. Hamm's Obituary
James Hamm, age 91 of Numa, Iowa died Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
James was born March 16, 1916, the son of David and Winfred (Guffey) Hamm in Cincinnati, Iowa. He graduated from Numa High School in 1933. James married Dorotha Trent April 6, 1940 in Unionville, Missouri. James worked in the Coal Mines and in the CCC Camp which built railroads and bridges. He moved to Rock Island and retired from John Deere in 1972 and then moved back to Numa. James went to Flordia every winter. James loved to fish and hunt. He was a member of the Gospel Chapel and First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children, Donald (Elaine) Hamm of Centerville, Iowa, and Susan (Daniel) Sikkema, of Kewanee, Illinois, seven grandchildren, James (Trina) Hamm of Indianapolis, Roger (Michele) Hamm of East Moline, Illinois, Gregory Hamm of St. Louis, Missouri, Deborah (Wesley) Brands of Colona, Illinois, Donald (Jenny) Hamm of Moline, Illinois, Lori (Greg) Knowles of Toulon, Illinois and Brain (Teri) Wise of Moline, Illinois, nine great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Merlene Hamm of Minneapolis, Minnesota and a brother-in-law, Duke (Donna) Trent of Rock Island, Illinois. He was preceded in death by wife, parents, a sister, Helen Argo, and a brother, Robert Hamm.
Funeral services will be held 11 am, Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Thomas Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in the Numa Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday morning at Thomas Lange Funeral Home from 9- 11 am. A memorial has been established to either the First Baptist Church in Centerville or the Numa Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
