James Fortune's Obituary
James Fortune, age 76 of Seymour passed away at Corydon Specialty Care on July 14, 2021.
James Luther Fortune was born on January 29, 1945 in Leon, Iowa to Wayne and Lois (James) Fortune. James attended school in Wayne County and graduated from Allerton High School in 1964. He was united in marriage to Patricia Rose Johnston and to this union Daniel, Mike, Tricia, Chris, and Jennifer were born.
James worked as a grocery warehouse laborer for many years at Hy-Vee Wholesale in Chariton. He also worked for Ziggy's in Sewal and did various odd jobs in his retirement. He enjoyed mowing yards and working outdoors. He was a handy man and could do many things. He loved going fishing, being with family and most of all being a servant to others. If you needed help, he would be there. He was a man of God and had a golden heart.
Survivors include children: Daniel Fortune (Michelle), Mike Fortune (Shirley), Tricia Fortune, Chris Fortune (Shawna), Jennifer Gay (Brad), grandchildren: Danielle Miller (Matt), Samantha Young (Jerel), Kristyn DeVore (Turner), Ashley Meeks (Matt), Taylor Fortune (Brittany), Heather Pope (Brandon), Jesse Jones, Corey Fortune (Haley), Keaton Gay, Tianna Fortune, Zechariah Gay, eighteen great grandchildren, sister Ronda Davis (Garth), brother Steve Fortune (Vicki), numerous extended family members and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Lois Fortune, wife Patricia, and great granddaughter Brynlee Paul.
Funeral service will be Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon with Kim Crawford officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 21, 2021 with family present from 5-7 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will immediately follow the service at the Corydon Cemetery.
