James W. Fisk's Obituary
James Fisk, 84, of Centerville passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. James was born on December 13, 1928 in Franklin Township (Cincinnati) to Edgar & Ellen Merle (Houdesheldt) Fisk. He received his education from Cincinnati High School graduating in 1946. After high school James attended Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and later would receive a Master of Arts Degree in Elementary Administration. James was united in marriage to LuEtta Husted on June 26, 1949 at the Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville. He taught at Brush College in Livingston Township, Moravia, and Brooklyn, Iowa. He would return to Centerville where he would teach Science at Howar Junior High for 33 years retiring in 1991. James dedicated his life to Christ at the Franklin Baptist Church in October 1948. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Centerville for over 50 years. While at First Baptist he was a part of the Diaconate Board, Board of Christian Education and served as teacher of the Home Builders Sunday School class for 51 years. He was a lifetime member of the National Education Association and the Iowa State Education Association. He also held memberships in the Gideons International, Appanoose County Historical Society, Iowa Mormon Trail Association and the Appanoose County Genealogical Society. Educating Centerville's youth was his passion. Survivors include three children: Marshia Miller of Mt. Ayr, IA, Marcus (Linda) Fisk of Centerville, Melody (Max) Rehm of Richland, IA, eight grandchildren: Marcy (Kevin) Maak, Kevin Miller, Amanda Miller, Stephen Rehm, Angela Rehm, Ryan Fisk, Adam (Kelsey) Fisk, Spencer Fisk; two great grandchildren: Daniel Maak, Ayden Miller and many nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, wife LuEtta Fisk in 1988, infant son, James Ronald Fisk and a sister Betty Radda. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Thomas Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Centerville with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating. Interment will follow in Livingston Cemetery near Cincinnati. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be given to First Baptist Church or the family.
