James Allen Davis' Obituary
James Allen "Jimmy" Davis was born July 21, 1946 to James F. and Cleo H. (Castor) Davis in Corydon, Iowa. The youngest of three boys, Jimmy grew up enjoying fishing, camping, hunting, helping his dad on the farm, and exploring the timber his family owned.
During high school, Jimmy wrestled, ran track, and made some great lifelong friends. Upon graduating from Corydon High School in 1964, Jimmy attended automotive trade school in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduation from trade school, Jimmy moved back to Corydon where he worked at Browns in Chariton for a brief period. He then moved to Des Moines, Iowa and took a job as a mechanic for JR and Avis Dullard at their Skelly Standard Station. While living in Des Moines, Jimmy met Cheryl J. Willis and the two married. They made their home in Des Moines and to this union, two children were born, Jinel Elaine (Davis) Morris and James Allen Davis II. They later divorced.
In 1970, Jimmy started working at Hoff Auto Electric. He would later go on to buy the company and repaired starters, alternators, and generators until his retirement in 2013.
In 1977, Jimmy married Regina A. (Jeanne) Pierce. Jeanne had an eight year old son, Justin "Jay" J. Pierce she brought to the union, and in 1978, Jimmy formally adopted Jay and raised him as his son.
Jimmy had a love for hunting, fishing, traveling, old country music, live music, restoring classic cars, cruising the back roads, ice cold beer, and most importantly, family. He was a Shriner and belonged to Back to the 50's Car Club. If you knew Jimmy and spent any time with him, you knew an ice cold beer and good conversation was a given.
"Wine time" was a tradition that everyone loved with Jimmy. After a day of cold beers, music, and games, everyone would retire to the trailer for Willie's Road House on Sirius XM and wine.
On March 2, 2022, James Allen Davis left this place and moved to Heaven where he was greeted by his parents, his brothers, Dean and Denny, and their wives, his grandparents, his nephew Bobby, Bo, both of his ex-wives, and his beloved schnauzers, Albert and Gretchen. He is survived by his children, son Justin "Jay" Davis (Nicole Davis and their son, Justin Jay Davis Jr.), daughter Jinel Elaine (Davis) Morris (Joe Morris) and her sons Zaccaria, Elijah, and Gabe Combs, son James A. Davis II, and his sons Isaiah and Noah, and daughter Cece, close friend Max H. Combs (Doreen Combs) and his daughter Ella Combs, 4 great grandchildren, Zarriah, Gracelynn, Behr, and Lex, and partner and best friend, Kevin Vajda, who Jimmy has lived with since 2002. Together, the two went on many road trips and vacations. Kevin's mother, Pat Vajda, who lives in Chariton, loved Jimmy so much, as did the rest of Kevin's family and friends.
A memorial service for Jimmy will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. The family has set up a GoFundMe page where memorials may be given https://gofund.me/d5f399c8, and condolences can be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
