James L. Corbett's Obituary
James Lee Corbett, age 78 of Centerville, Iowa passed away July 2, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
James was born October 4, 1929, the son of James and Cordelia (Tolbert) Corbett in Centerville, Iowa. He married Deloris Duty October 26, 1952. She preceded him in death on June 12, 2005. James enjoyed fishing and was an avid golfer, winning several tournaments in Hannibal, Missouri area. He lived in the Hannibal area and work for the Missouri Highway Department as a Construction Grade Checker for 25 years and then moved to Centerville. In Centerville he worked in the extrusion department for Union Carbide until retirement. James served in the Korean War, Air Borne Infantry as a Paratrooper. He was a member of the VFW.
James is survived by a daughter, Diane (Kurt) Herr of Centerville, Iowa; a son, Steve Corbett of Centerville, Iowa; a sister, Betty Pearson of Ottumwa, Iowa; grandchildren, Dawn (Dave) Graber of Ames, Iowa, and Jamie Lewellen of Centerville, Iowa; great grandchildren, Hannah, Sophia, Magnolia, and Samuel Graber of Ames, Iowa, Jared and Katie Herr of Chariton, Iowa, and Melanie Herr of Centerville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Bill, Carl and Darl Corbett.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Mark Waits officiating. Burial with full Military Rites will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Unionville, Iowa. A visitation will be held Saturday at the funeral home from 10AM-2PM, with family present from 1-2 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the family and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
