James Koran Brees' Obituary
James Koran Brees, age 70, of Centerville, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024 at his home.
James was born on June 10, 1953 in Sewal, Iowa, the son of Koran and Ila Mae (Palmer) Brees. He graduated from Seymour High School with the Class of 1971. James was united in marriage to Connie VanDyne on March 16, 1973, and to this union, two children were born, Chasity and Christopher.
Throughout his life, James worked for the Iowa D.O.T. as a highway engineer. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, kids ball games, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, bowling and working crosswords. Most importantly, James cherished every moment he spent with his family, especially playing card games.
Left to honor James' memory are his wife of over 51 years, Connie Brees; his father, Koran Brees; his children, Chasity (Melissa) Brees-DeYoung and Christopher Brees; his sisters, Karen Santana, Nancy Brees, and Sarah (Duane) Rupalo; as well as numerous extended family members.
James was preceded in death by his mother, Ila Mae Brees; his sister, Mary-Lynn (Don) Freuh; his niece, Katie Freuh; and his brother-in-law, Tony Santana.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, April 5, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Larry Bettis officiating. Cremation will follow the service, and a private burial at Highland Cemetery in Mystic will take place at a later date. Visitation will take place Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 5:00PM-7:00PM.
