Jack Miner's Obituary
Jack Monroe Miner (82) died from injuries from a car accident on May 13, 2012. Jack was born on the Miner family farm west of Cambria to William 'Chet' and Ruth (Kirby) Miner on November 16, 1929. He lived and attended school in Des Moines from the age of 5 years until he graduated from Des Moines Tech in 1948. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University in 1952. Jack married Marilyn (Rutz) Miner in Des Moines on June 12, 1949. He was employed in the aerospace industry for about 20 years. They returned to Iowa in 1969. During the years back in Iowa, he formed Mattco Land Corp. with a partner from California. He managed this company until his death. Jack believed in good conservation methods, such as planting trees on CPR ground and wetland programs. Jack loved the outdoors---camping, fishing, hunting and traveling. Jack and Marilyn traveled throughout the United States by camper as well as many foreign country tours. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Miner of 62 years, brother Bill 'Gert', sister Dorothy and many nieces and nephews. He loved his family and always enjoyed their company when they came to Cambria to visit. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard, sisters-in-law Helen and Marge and brother-in-law George Stevens, step-mother Agnes Miner, and step-brothers Lee (Marie) Miner and Donald (Delores) Miner.
