Jack Dean Lamb's Obituary
Jack Dean Lamb, age 82 of Moravia, passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 at Centerville Specialty Care in Centerville.
Jack was born on August 25, 1934, the son of Harry and Faye (Mertz) Lamb in Albia, Iowa. He joined two older siblings, Harry Jr. and Phyliss (Harrison). Jack graduated from Albia Highschool, class of 1952. Jack was united in marriage to Judy Boyer on July 1, 1956 in Moravia, Iowa.
Jack was employed at Maytag in Newton, Iowa for 31 years, and 9 years at Honey Creek State Park. His favorite sport was baseball. He played on Adult Fast Pitch and Slow Pitch teams as a catcher. During his retirement, he continued to work. He was a cattle breeder, dealing with purebred Gelbvieh livestock since 1997, while living on the farm. In his free time, he loved to follow his three granddaughters across Iowa, supporting them in their various sports, including, softball, track and basketball.
Jack is survived by his wife, Judy (Boyer) Lamb of Moravia; a daughter, Joni (Doc) Sokol of Centerville; granddaughters, Michelle (Sean) Galusha of St. Pete's Beach, Florida, Cassandra (Andrew) McDowell of Stilwell, Kansas, Alison (Samuel) Weeks of West Des Moines, Iowa; three great grandchildren, Kaedyn Galusha, Landen McDowell and Lawson McDowell; sister, Phyllis Harrison of Le Center, Minnesota; and a nephew, David Harrison of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Faye (Mertz) Lamb; a brother, Harry Jr., and a nephew, Steven Harrison.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM, Friday, January 27, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Adam Standley officiating. Burial will follow the service at Main Station Cemetery near Moravia. A visitation will take place on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 5-7PM. A memorial has been established to either the Appanoose County Historical Society or to Mercy Medical Center Legacies Foundation, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
