Jack H. Howard's Obituary
Jack Harold Howard, 78 of Moulton, Iowa, died Friday, March 18, 2011 at the Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. He was born the son of Marvin and Edyth (Swarts) Howard on September 1, 1932 in Moulton, Iowa. He graduated from Moulton Community Schools. While in high school, Jack joined the Moulton Volunteer Fire Department and served as the Fire Chief for many years. Following high school, Jack began working for his father at Howard Motors and running the projectors at a local movie theater. He met his wife, Lois Potter, at the local theater and they were married on September 11, 1953. Shortly after their wedding, Jack began working for the United States Postal Service in Moulton as a letter carrier. He retired after 34 years of loyal service. Jack was involved in various community organizations including: Moulton Methodist Church, Moulton Lions Club and Moulton City Council. Jack was very active in his community and always kept busy helping others. His community involvement earned him the Commonwealth Community Award and a Volunteer Award presented to him by Governor Branstad.He is preceded in death by: his parents, an infant son, Marvin John Howard; brothers-in-law Don Davis and Dale Mathews; and his mother and father-in-law. Jack leaves behind: his wife of 57 years, Lois Howard of Moulton, Iowa; his daughter, Barbara Stephanie and her husband, Dennis of Moulton, Iowa; grandchildren, Nathan VanSickel and his wife, Jessica of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Seth VanSickel and his wife, Melissa of Davenport, Iowa and Nolanne Cox and her husband, David of Oskaloosa, Iowa; two great grandchildren-Deacon & Drake Cox; sisters, Joan Davis of Moulton, Iowa, Jean Moore of Lavonia, Missouri, Judy Mathews of Lancaster, Missouri and Ramona Harrington of Boone, Iowa; and a brother, Glen Howard of Moulton, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 1:30 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton, Iowa with Brian Hargrave officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset View Cemetery north of Moulton. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 21, 2011, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Moulton with the family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
