J.R. Holmes' Obituary
Lowell "J.R." Holmes Jr. passed away on December 2, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. J.R. was born on October 11, 1936 in Confidence, Iowa to Lowell Sr. and Fern (Bonebreak) Holmes. He attended school in Seymour. J.R. worked as a truck driver for many years. He enjoyed driving the truck and once he was retired he enjoyed drinking coffee and socializing with the guys at the tire shop. Survivors include his children: Deb Dustin (Larry), Lisa Van Houten (Don), and Jeff Holmes (Sandy), companion, Linda White, 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and numerous extended family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Rick Holmes, wife, Janet Holmes, sisters: Betty Smith, Donna Sulser, and Velma Swan, twin grandsons, Jonathan and Jason and half-brother Arthur Slack. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour. Interment will immediately follow the service at Haines Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, December 5, 2019 with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour. Memorials may be given to the family to be designated at a later date.
