J. Kilbourn's Obituary
J. C. Kilbourn, son of John H. and Cecile Frances (Buoy) Kilbourn, was born in Wayne County on August 4, 1919 and passed away at the Wayne County Hospital on September 12, 2011 at the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 8 days. After his graduation from Allerton High School in 1941 he entered the U. S. Army. He served with the 34th Division in the Mediterranean. During the almost five years he served in the Army he was stationed in Ireland, Scotland, England, Africa, and Italy. He was honorably discharged in 1945. In September 1945 J. C. was united in marriage to Maudelene Dorsey and three children were born to this union, Larry, Janet and Carol Kay. J. C. and Maudelene were engaged in farming near Promise City for 22 years and later they purchased a farm southeast of Corydon and lived there for 18 years. They retired in 1989 and moved to Corydon. J. C. was a caring, loving man and he always put everyone's needs before his own. He was especially fond of children. His passion was walking and he enjoyed his walks outside as long as his health permitted, but when this wasn't possible he walked in the Wayne County Hospital. After his walks he would often eat in the hospital cafeteria. He said that was his favorite place to eat. He thought a lot of the hospital employees and they returned those same feelings. They give him a huge party on his 90th birthday. During the party he was surprised by the presentation of his forgotten military metals that he earned during World War II. He was a proud veteran and loved his country. J. C. loved to make items for his neighbors and family. He gave many people his 'walnut skunks'. Other items he made for his grandchildren were clocks and chairs and bittersweet squirrel feeders. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Cecil Kilbourn, wife Maudelene, son Larry, daughter-in-law Carol Ann, and sister Blanche. Those left to mourn his passing are his daughters Janet and husband Jimmy Enright and Carol Kay Kayser, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
