J.C. Davison's Obituary
J.C. Davison, the son of Ivan and Bernice Duncan Davison was born April 14, 1934 at Seymour, Wayne County Iowa and departed this life on July 3, 2020, at the age of 86 years. J.C. graduated from Corydon High School with the class of 1952. J.C. participated in football and basketball all four years of high school, receiving All Conference Awards in both sports. He attended Central College of Pella on an athletic scholarship. J.C. was united in marriage to Ellarea Warren of Corydon, September 11, 1953. Wayne County Auditor, Bert Voyce, employed J.C. as Deputy Auditor in April 1954. March 1956 he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served two years active duty and four additional years with the Army Reserves to complete his six year tour of duty obligations. While serving on active duty service through college correspondence courses, J.C. received an Accounting Certificate from the University of Wisconsin. Upon an honorable discharge from active duty in 1958, J.C. returned to the Auditor's office. In April 1959 he became the Secretary-Treasurer of the Wayne County Mutual Insurance Association until February 1973 when he was hired to become a Loan Officer and Trust Officer at the Corydon State Bank. In 1975 he was named President of the bank and then in 1978 became an owner in the partnership purchase of the bank. Having sold the bank in 1996, J.C. retired to the farm that he and Ellarea had purchased in 1995. Those who worked with him through the years appreciated his strong work ethic and attention to detail. J.C. was honored by Strathmore's "Who's Who" in 1996/1997 for demonstrating leadership and achievement in his banking profession and an Appreciation Award from the Corydon Chamber of Commerce for over 23 years with Corydon State Bank and thirteen and half years at Wayne County Mutual Insurance Association in service to Corydon and the Chamber of Commerce. J.C. was a life member of the United Methodist Church; served as a Regent Member on the Amy Robertson Trust at Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa; Member of the Wayne County Conservation Board; Secretary-Treasurer of the Wayne County Conservation Foundation; Volunteer for many years for the Corydon Fire Department; served on the board of Corydon Little League Baseball and was honored to have been appointed by the Iowa Superintendent of Banking to serve on the Banking Legislative Committee from 1987-1991. He was active in the Jaycees and a charter member of the Corydon Lions Club, serving as Treasurer for two terms. He was a past member of the Board of Trustees of the Wayne County Hospital and the Wayne County Historical Society and Prairie Trails Museum board. J.C. was very proud to hitch his team of black Clydesdales, Bill and Dan. In 1996, complete with covered wagon and all, J.C. and his team were part of the 150 year Iowa Pioneer Mormon Trail Trek Re-enactment Wagon Train across Iowa. They were with the train from Bloomfield to Garden Grove. The hitch was in several parades including Old Settlers in Corydon. J.C. and Ellarea moved to Payson, Arizona in October 2005 to be near their children and families. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the love of his life, Ellarea, his parents, brother Ron and granddaughter Maya Tedeschi. J.C. leaves to celebrate his memory three children: Laura and husband James Tedeschi, Lake Oswego, Oregon, Lisa and husband David McCalmont, Phoenix, Arizona and Matthew and wife Debra, Glendale, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Candace and Lily McCalmont, Jenna Tedeschi, Mirabella Andreini, Saxon, Peter and Cecilia Davison; sisters Carolyn and husband Russell Copley, Ankeny, Iowa and Marilyn Johns, Springfield, Missouri; sister-in-law Mary Lou and husband Larry Sturgis, Lamoni, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon with Pastor Diane Olson Schroeder officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at the Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020 from 5-7 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon.
