Ivan Leslie Snook Obituary's Obituary
Ivan Leslie (Ike) Snook was born in Lucas County, Iowa on April 1, 1925 and went to meet his Savior on October 9, 2013. His parents were Lew and Lizzy Snook, life long residents of Lucas County. Ike was one of 11 children to be born to the Lew Snook family. Ike attended grade school at High Prairie School, southeast of Derby. After graduating from the 8th grade at High Prairie, he continued his education at the Derby High School graduating with his high school diploma in 1942. Since WWII was going on at the time, Ivan road a train to Kansas City, Missouri to take a military physical which he passed. The Army discovered that Ivan's older brother was in the Army Air Corps and they gave him a farm exemption to stay at home and support his country by farming the Iowa farmland. Ike grew up across the road from Kathryn Langford. They were involved in the youth activities together at the Eden Baptist Church just a quarter mile down the road. In January 1945, Ivan and Kathryn were married. They began farming in Lucas County near where they grew up and later moved to Promise City, Iowa where they bought a farm and raised their family. Ivan and Kathryn had four children: Richard was born in 1946, Marilyn in 1950, Joan Louise in 1954 and Mark Edwin in 1956. Joan Louise was still born. Even though Ivan and Kathryn were farmers all their lives, in 1962 Ivan began working for Fred McCarty who had an old converted horse well boring machine. Soon Ivan bought the machine and formed Snook Well Company. He pulled that old 'horse machine' all over southern Iowa and northern Missouri digging wells for farmers and new homeowners who needed water. His sons, Richard and Mark, later joined the family business and purchased larger and more modern equipment. When Ivan reached the age of 62 he retired from farming and well boring, but continued to live on the family farm north of Promise City. After Kathryn's death in June 2005, Ivan moved to Corydon and later to Chariton. Ivan was a hard working, dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather to his family. He always enjoyed the visits from his family, pausing to watch his grandchildren and great grandchildren run around playing near him. He was also a dedicated Christian man who accepted the Lord as his savior at an early age and always made sure his family was not only in church, but was a part the church's activities. He was a long time member of the Corydon Bible Church. His parents, Lew and Lizzy Snook, three brothers, five sisters, as well as his wife of 60 years, Kathryn Snook and his infant daughter Joan Louise, preceded Ivan in death. His sister Reva of Weldon, Iowa, brother Don of Westport, Connecticut, three children Richard Snook of Fort Pierce, Florida, Marilyn Walker of Green City, Missouri, and Mark Snook of Chariton, Iowa survive Ivan. Ivan has 7 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and many hundreds of friends.
