Irene June Smith's Obituary
Irene J. Smith, age 89, of Centerville, Iowa, died Monday, January 17, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Forrest and Beulah (Hammersly) Bills on October 17, 1921 in Mystic, Iowa. She received her education in the Mystic Community Schools.On December 31, 1957, Irene was united in marriage to Richard Smith in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a homemaker and a member of the Rockford General Baptist Church in Rockford, Illinois. After spending over 49 years in the Rockford and Byron, Illinois area, they moved to Centerville, Iowa in 2009.She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, James and Edward Bills; and sisters, Fayetta Barach and Joanne Simatovich; and a son-in-law, Jerry Barton.Irene is survived by: her husband, Richard Smith of Centerville, Iowa; a son, Todd Smith and Kathy Kellogg of Gilbert, Arizona; daughters, Connie Barton of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Janis Larson and her husband, Jerry of San Antonio, Texas and Jodi Smith of Centerville, Iowa; sisters, Elana Carter of Des Moines, Iowa and Lois Thomas of Mystic, Iowa; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Brian Hargrave officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery west of Mystic, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2011 all day with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to Mercy Hospice and left at or mailed to the funeral home.
