Irene Moore's Obituary
Margaret Irene (Cobb) Moore was born on October 10, 1924 to Oscar and Ola Cobb one mile east of Allerton, Iowa, on her parent's farm. She had three siblings. Irene graduated from Allerton in 1942. Following graduation, she taught school at Higley School for one year and then Hall School for four years. She taught all grades in the country school houses. When Darrell Moore was home on furlough, waiting for a transfer in the Army, he and Irene were married on March 19, 1945. Irene's brother, Maurice Cobb, was butchering that night at Everett Klinger's and Darrell went to get him to be his best man. Lamere Moore, Darrell's sister, served as maid of honor. Darrell and Irene were married at the parsonage at 5:00 p.m. and returned to Irene's parents' home for dinner to include angel food cake and they remained living with her parents. Darrell went to Europe to fight in WWII and Irene remained back home. Upon Darrell's return, the couple made Allerton, Iowa, their home together for the next 68 years. To this marriage, two sons were born, Steven Lyle in 1950 and Clell Dean in 1953. Irene helped Darrell on the family farm and raised their sons, up until they each moved out and each established their own farms within one mile of where they grew up. This closeness later benefitted the many grandkids to come along. Almost daily, there was a grandkid at grandma and grandpa's house. Irene cooked many meals and baked lots of desserts to feed the grandkids, and for the men who were working in the field and out at the shop working on the equipment. She loved to fish, garden, and tended to her chickens for years. She also spent many hours with Darrell at the grandkids sporting events and 4-H shows. She was a member of the Historical Society Club and Prairie Flower Club for many years. Darrell passed away in March 2013 and she remained on the family farm up until February 2017. Later in life, she made her home at the Corydon Specialty Clinic where she formed very close relationships with Chanda and "Jonesy." Preceding her in death was her parents, her husband, Darrell, her son, Steven, her infant sister, Dortha Cobb, and her brothers, Maurice Cobb (Marcella) and Lewis Cobb (Wilma). Irene is survived by her son, Clell and his wife Lee Ann; seven grandchildren: Brian Moore (Lisa) of Corydon, Sondra Rollins (Terry) of Allerton, Christopher Moore (Sara) of Allerton, Lindsey Westphal (Danny) of Seymour, Blair Moore (Dolly) of Knoxville, Crystal Hansen (Eric) of Whitehouse, Ohio, and Cheri Goben (Jake) of Allerton; and thirteen great grandchildren.
