Irene Crow's Obituary
Cyrena Irene Crow, 84, of Centerville, Iowa passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. She was born in Centerville on November 20, 1919 the daughter of Taylor McCoy and Iva (Swan) McCoy. She was raised in Centerville and received her childhood education at Eureka and Exline Schools, graduating from Centerville High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Charley Virgil Crow on April 8, 1939. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1986. Irene is survived by a son Gary( Marilyn) Crow, three daughters Beverly (Stephen) Jewett, Jane (Doran) Hayes of Centerville and Rebecca (Phillip) Hinkle of Holiday Island, Arkansas; 16 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; a brother Lester McCoy, three sisters Ruth Benz, Pearl Shanahan of Centerville and Bernice Craver of Exline. She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil, a sister Inez Banks and an infant great granddaughter. Irene received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965 and a Masters of Arts degree in Education in 1969 from Truman University. She spent her entire career in Appanoose county, teaching at Eureka, Lynn Grove, Exline, Cincinnati and Central Elementary Schools. She retired from the profession on May 31, 1985 after 38 years of teaching. Her family and friends were very dear to her and she spent her entire life nurturing them. Her happiest moments were spending time with her family, traveling with her sisters, playing cards and working in her garden. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Hospital Auxiliary, 18-80 Club and Sharon Chapel Church. Services will be held Saturday, November 29th at Thomas Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Clyde Sparks and Rev. Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will be in the Sharon Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held all day Friday at the funeral home with family present from 6-8 p.m.. Memorials may be made to the Sharon Chapel Cemetery Association or Drake Public Library.
