Ilene Lacey McElfish Obituary's Obituary
Ilene McElfish was born April 20, 1921 to Allie and Mabel Lacey. Ilene and her twin sister Maxine were the youngest of six kids, her older siblings include brothers Eugene, Doyle, Vick and an older sister Cleo. She passed away on October 4, 2014 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon. On February 16, 1937 Ilene married Harold McElfish at the age of 15, in a double ceremony with her twin sister Maxine. In 1942 one daughter, Jean Ann was born, and in 1963 one granddaughter Cheryl was born. Ilene worked at Neely's and later quit to stay home and help on the farm. She raked hay and had up to 1,000 chickens at a time. She washed eggs way into the night and delivered eggs to town one or two times a week to sell at the Centerville Produce. She loved her sheep and also helped with the cows, hogs, and field work. In the late 70's she became a CNA at the Corydon Nursing and Rehab Center. She loved the residents, and worked there for over 20 years. In her later years, she took time off to care for Harold when he became ill, until his death in 1997. She then went back to work at the care center and finally retired in her 80's in 2004. She then would babysit her great-great grand-daughter Cadi. She enjoyed her grandkids very much. Ilene was preceded in death by her parents Mabel and Allie Lacey, her siblings Doyle, Cleo, Vick, and Maxine, her husband Harold and her daughter Jean Ann. Ilene is survived by her brother Eugene, granddaughter Cheryl and husband Dick Rouse, great-granddaughters Ashley and Alisha, great-grandson's in-law Jeremy Miller and Robert Lee, great-great-granddaughters Cadi and Cassi Miller, Peyton Kanney and Paisley Lee.
