Ielene Jones' Obituary
Ielene B. Jones, 93, of Plano passed away Monday, November 28, 2016 at Centerville Specialty Care. Ielene was born to Watson & Bernice (Morey) Beatty in Creston, Iowa on November 17, 1923. She graduated as class valedictorian from Heyworth (Illinois) High School in 1941 and received a scholarship to Illinois Wesleyan. In 1942, Ielene transferred to the University of Iowa to become a Registered Nurse. After graduating from Iowa in 1945, Ielene moved to Bloomington, Illinois, where she began her nursing career at Brokaw Hospital. Ielene moved to St. Louis in 1948 to work as an R.N. at Barnes Hospital. At Barnes, Dr. Evarts Graham, the "Father of Thoracic Surgery," asked Ielene to join the hospital's chest services division. In 1953, Ielene returned to her family near Seymour and began working at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, where she became Director of Nursing. Ielene married John (Neil) Jones in November 1960 and moved to rural Plano. After leaving Davis County Hospital, Ielene worked as School Nurse for the Seymour Community School District, before becoming the Centerville Care Center's Director of Nursing in 1979. She retired in 1996, after teaching a generation of nurses several important lessons, including that there's exactly one right way to make a patient's bed. Ielene was a member of the Plano Christian Church and its auxiliary. She was a passionate and vocal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the University of Iowa's football and basketball teams. She made thousands of cookies, pies and pans of fudge, and enjoyed sewing, reading and visits from friends and family. Survivors include son, Brian Jones (Brenda Strong) of Chicago. Ielene was preceded in death by husband, Neil, and five beloved siblings; Ronald Beatty, Steve Beatty, James Beatty, Robert Beatty and Betty Jordan. A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Plano Christian Church with Kay Singley officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior from 10-11:00 a.m. Interment will be at a later date in Crossroads Cemetery in Plano. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Central Iowa.
