Ida I. Helmick's Obituary
Ida I. Helmick, age 91, of Centerville, Iowa, died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Joseph Roby and Eva (Wieneke) Small on March 30, 1922 near Ottumwa, Iowa in Wapello County. She attended a Wapello Country School near her home.On September 6, 1938, Ida was united in marriage to Hubert H. Helmick in Unionville, Missouri. She first worked at Baxter Box factory, then McGraw Edison and later would work over 20 plus years in the Housekeeping Department at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Centerville. Ida was also involved in helping her husband farm the family farm in Appanoose County. She was a member of the Boots & Saddle Club and the North Bend Ladies Aid. She spend many hour after retiring from the hospital, planting flowers in all the flower beds at the hospital.In death, Ida joins her parents; her husband, Hubert Helmick on January 12, 2003; brothers, Donald Small and Ernest Small; and a sister, Inez Brittain.She is survived by: her daughters, Evelyn Thomas and her husband, Larry of Centerville, Iowa, Edith McGill and her husband, Mickal of Centerville, Iowa and Jean Richmond and her husband, Ronald of Exline, Iowa; twelve grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; sisters, Icel Schurtz of Texas, Lucille Leffler of Blakesburg, Iowa and Ruth Ella Gardner of Albia, Iowa; also a sister-in-law, Evelyn Small of Blakesburg, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Adam Standley officiating. Burial to follow in the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 2 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her name and will be designated at a later date and can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
