Helen Rae Slawson's Obituary
Helen Rae Slawson of Corydon, Iowa passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023 at the Wayne County Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.Helen was born June 4th 1941 in Seymour, Iowa to Douglas and Alice (Fox) Moore. She graduated from Seymour High School and went on to Indian Hills Community College where she earned her nursing degree.
After receiving her nursing degree, Helen worked in Chariton, Iowa at the care center. She then moved to Oklahoma City where she worked in the neonatal unit. She moved backed to Corydon and worked at the Corydon Care Center for over 28 years. She dedicated her life to helping others and caring for her patients. Over the years her patients received her kindness and love. She took care of the elderly for many years of her life and cared for her dear friend Betty Holt.
Helen had five daughters; Tammie, Shayla, Darcie, Melissa, and Kellie. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her family. She loved her flowers, her beloved dogs Zoe and Tux. She enjoyed shopping at Wal-Mart and going to thrift stores.
Left to cherish Helen's memory are her four girls: Tammie Carter, Shayla Vestal, Darcie (Aaron) Moore , and Kellie (Dave) Anderson; grandchildren: Jeremy, April (Justin) Thomas, Bobby(Sara) Wiremen, Jessica Stalzer, CL (Maryann) Vestal, Alicia (Keith) Smith, Tonya Fry (Tommy Jessen), Tiffany Fry (James Vogel), Josh (Julie) Fry, Larramie Moore ( Kylie Wyckoff), Kristina ( Scott) Harris, Krystle (Chuck) Taylor, Kelly Birkenholz, Cory (Sierra) Heun, Breann ( Michael) Enright, Scotlan (Austin) Peterson; great grandchildren: Corwin Thomas, Michael Thomas, Lilian Wireman, Braydon Wireman, Aryssa, Alyzabeth, and Ayden Miles, Landon Stazler, Maliki Wireman, Sabrina Thomas, Brenda Thomas, Taylor, Austin, and Lily Seaton, Josh, Audrey, Dielrick, Olivia, TC, California Harris, Terrance, Isiah, Madison, Dakota, Dominick Taylor, Landon Stalzer, Devin (Jazmine) Vestal, Shaylea Vestal, Reagan and Tate Smith, Quincy Nigh, Kaimon and Raionna West, Arianna Lee, Skye and Thor Mitteness, Orion Vogel, Eli and Lane Fry, Brinely Arnett, Everson Moore, Sydney Williams, Triston and Trent Anders, Samuel Enright ; great great grandson: Riot Lawrence Vestal.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents Douglas and Alice Moore, siblings Wayne (Liz) Moore, Willard Peter (Arletta) Moore, Kenneth (Dorothy) Moore; daughter Missy Jones; granddaughter Calean Heun, Danielle Wireman; grandson Christopher Jackson; son-in-law's Craig Vestal and Chuck Carter; nephew Robin Moore; niece Terry Lee Moore.
A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, May 31st, 2023 from 6-8PM at Walden Park in Corydon, IA to celebrate the cherished life of Helen.
