Helen Fern Shipley's Obituary
Helen Fern Shipley, daughter of Oral and Zola Snodgrass passed away, Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Corydon Nursing & Rehab. Helen was born Nov 27, 1924, near Powersville, Missouri. Helen attended High School at Mercer, Missouri and graduated with the class of 1943. She was united in marriage to Everett Wayne Shipley on April 3, 1943, and moved to a farm near Humeston, Iowa. To this union was born five daughters and one son: Virginia, Marjorie, Melinda, Rachel, Jolene, and Andrew. On July 25, 1946, she accepted Christ as her Savior and became a member of Spring Branch Church. In 1977 they sold their farm of 34 years and moved to Corydon, Iowa. Helen became a member of First Baptist Church of Corydon in 1979. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Wayne in 1979, her parents, Oral and Zola, a sister Clara Mae, a brother Robert, brothers-in-law Creede and Bobby, grand-daughter, Lori George, great-grandson Ryan, great-grand daughter, Brianna. She is survived by her sister Marietta Waddle; sisters-in-law Reva Shipley and Norma Snodgrass; children Virginia and Phillip George; Marjorie and Glen Allen; and Melinda and Greg Willey, all of Corydon, Iowa; Rachel Cropp; Jolene Taylor, Andrew and Tawnia Shipley, all from West Des Moines, Iowa. Helen had a large family, her surviving family includes grandchildren: Tom (Christie) George, Jeff (Carrie) George, Chris (Heather) George, Becki (Chris) Nichols, Jason (Laura) Reger, Glen Wayne (Kristi) Allen, Nathan (Natalie) Allen, Tiffany (Scott) Crawford, Tina (Eric) Cox, Joe (Stacey) Willey; Tyler (Abigail) Cropp, Carly Taylor, Adam and Nicholas Shipley. Surviving great grandchildren include Shannon, Amy, Parker, Jeremy, Jacob, Jenna, Hunter, Carter, Madison, Meghan, Blake, Bailey, Shaye, Kieren, Sam, Zoey, Tanner, Karli, Kayli, Vivian, Jasmine, Alison, Logan, Colton, Devin, Kaylor, Paige, Rylan, Bode, Marlea, Macey, Claire and Brendan. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Corydon. Interment will follow immediately at the Corydon Cemetery.
