Helen Edythe Oglesby's Obituary
Helen Edythe Oglesby, age 94, of Centerville, IA, died Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Homestead Assisted Living in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Ralph and Vesper (Schwerdtfeger) Hill on March 9, 1920 in Arapahoe, Nebraska. She graduated from the Arapahoe High School and later would graduate from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.Helen was united in marriage on June 11, 1946 at her home in Lincoln, Nebraska to Stanley Lyle Oglesby. She was an educator for many years teaching in Lincoln and Wymore, Nebraska as well as in Centerville, Iowa. Helen was the community coordinator for the Red Cross Blood Drive, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Centerville, and a member of the PEO and TTT.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Stanley Lyle Oglesby on September 13, 2012; sisters, Marjorie Zander and June Johnson; and a brother, Ralph Hill Jr.Helen is survived by: daughters, Linda Balog and her husband, Bryan of Fairfax, Iowa, Susan Daugherty and her husband, Tom of Papillion, Nebraska, Trisha Stephens and her husband, Dave of Centerville, Iowa and Nancy Pim and her husband, Bill of Des Moines, Iowa; a son, Steven Oglesby and Mark Dorpinghaus of Coralville, Iowa; Nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren; and a sister, Ara Jane Dunlap of Omaha, Nebraska.Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Friday, March 13, 2015 at Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Brian Hargrave officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Open visitation will be held from 2 pm until 8 pm on Thursday, March 12, 2015 and the family will be present for visitation on Friday from 10 am until the time of services at the funeral homeMemorials can be made to HCI Care Services (Hospice) and left or mailed to the funeral home.
