Helen Leib's Obituary
Helen Leib, 97 of Allerton passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Corydon Nursing and Rehab Center. Helen was born on June 24, 1918 in Cass County, Iowa to Glenn & Dorothea (Husmann) Lackey. On June 20, 1936 Helen was united in marriage to Eugene Leib. To this union were 11 children all born at home except Rodney: Roger, Joyce, Janice, Ronald, Ray, Russell, Jolene, Judy, Rick, Joanne and Rodney. She was employed for a time at Neely's Manufacturing in Corydon and Gross Galesburg in Chariton, but Helen was a homemaker all of her life and raising her children was her legacy. She was a very strong woman, many times working out in the fields side by side with her husband and always, always made 3 full meals a day. Many times she and dad invited neighbor kids to the table who might have stopped by to see one of her children. Raising 11 children was not an easy task, but she enjoyed being a mother. She never raised her temperament very much at all. Helen enjoyed working in her garden, whether it was food or flowers; she found peaceful times working with the soil. She enjoyed mowing the grass at home and watching birds fly around the yard and feeding them. Helen could point out just about any bird that landed at the bird feeder in her yard. Sewing was another hobby she enjoyed. She loved making quilts and made many of them. She made a lot of lap blankets for the nursing homes in Corydon and Chariton prior to her illness. Helen was always excited for the summer time family gatherings at the farm or Walden Park. She will be missed by many family members. Survivors include, eight children: Roger Leib of Allerton, Joyce Allard of Russell, Janice Creger of Richmond Hill, Georgia, Ronald Leib (Darlene) of Indianola, Jolene Jackson (Raymond) of Ankeny, Rick Leib (Carol) of Ankeny, Joanne Van Dyne (Rod) of Corydon, Rodney Leib of Clio, 21 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, three children: Ray, Russell, Judy (Adair), two son-in-laws; Calvin Allard and Bill Creger; two grandsons: Jason Jackson and Brandon Leib; great grandson: Talon Leib and two siblings: Ross Lackey and Ilene Leach. Pallbearers are Brian Leib, Matt VanDyne, Nathan VanDyne, Scott Jackson, Aaron Leib, and Shawn Adair. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Allard, Mike Creger, Brad Creger, and David Creger. Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Thomas-Randolph Funeral Home in Corydon with Rev. Leroy Perkins officiating. Interment will be immediately following in Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and will continue until time of service.
