Helen Harrington's Obituary
Helen Jean (Tipton) Harrington was called home to be with the Lord on July 14, 2025. She was 100 years, 11 months, and 13 days old. Born on August 1, 1924, in Dean, Iowa, she was raised in Moulton, Iowa, and lived most of her life in Unionville, Iowa.
The daughter of Loy and Cecile (Higdon) Tipton, Helen was one of twelve children. She was preceded in death by Fern (Ralph) Morrison, Pauline (Ed) Bailey, Hazel (Benny) Beloma, Ruth (Midge) Hedberg, Lola (Charles) Hinerman, Enid (Max) Moulton, Loy Jr. (Darlene) Tipton, Rex (Kay) Tipton, and brothers-in-law, Jerry Landtiser and Dave Edwards. She is survived by her brother, Max (Kathy) Tipton, and sisters, Garnett Landtiser and Patty Edwards.
Helen married John L. Harrington in 1943 in Unionville, Iowa. She is survived by her daughters Janet (Robert) Harsh and Jean (Robert) Kelley; grandchildren Renee (Tim) McDonough, Courtney (Ben) Stotler, Brandon Kelley, and Jaclyn (Jon) Pieper; great-grandchildren Erin (Tim) Laurentius, Andrew (Christy) McDonough, Zac (Rachel) Seaman, Caroline Haines, Haley Kelley, Henry Stotler, Samantha Pieper, and Scott Pieper; great-great-grandchildren Amelia Laurentius, William Laurentius, Robert Laurentius, and August Laurentius; dear family friend Linda Scott; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Helen was a devoted member of Unionville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed singing and working at church, taking trips, working in her yard, and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa State University Football and Men's and Women's Basketball. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and helping https://others.Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John Harrington; parents, Loy and Cecile Tipton; her in-laws, Paul and Myrtle Harrington; and her sons-in-law, Robert Harsh and Robert Kelley.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Monday, July 21, 2025, at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa. Burial will follow the service at Unionville Cemetery in Unionville, Iowa. Visitation will take place Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 3:00pm-5:00pm. Memorials in honor of Helen have been established to Trinity United Methodist Church in Huxley, Iowa; American Legion Auxiliary in Unionville, Iowa; and Unionville Cemetery.
