Hazel Strode's Obituary
Hazel Lucile (Ballanger) Strode, 86, of Centerville, passed away on November 29, 2017 at her home. Hazel was born on October 6, 1931 to the late Arthur and Alzada Ballanger in Coatsville, Missouri. On September 12, 1954 she married Robert Strode in Seymour, Iowa and to this union, five children were born. Hazel was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, embroidering, word search puzzles, cooking and baking (especially wedding cakes.) She was a long time member of Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church and enjoyed the church's Willing Workers organization. Hazel is survived by her son, Emmett (Ramona) Strode; daughters: Marilyn Strode, Marlene Strode and Marcia (Brian) Bowen; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers: Ralph (Linda) Ballanger, Roy (Rose) Ballanger and Ray (Denise) Ballanger as well as her sister, Edna Wilty. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert (in 2002); son, Eldon "Max" Strode; sister, Verneta Purkeypile as well as two infant sisters and one infant brother. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Interment will immediately follow at Dale Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home.
