Hazel L. Helmick's Obituary
Hazel Helmick, age 94 of Moravia, Iowa passed away Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia.
Hazel was born November 29, 1914, the daughter of Francis and Mazie (Shepard) Martin in Drakesville, Iowa. She married Ernest L. Helmick on January 19, 1933 in Bloomfield, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1987. Hazel was a cook for Moravia Schools for over twenty years. She enjoyed crocheting, collecting salt and pepper shakers, and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. As a young child she was a member of the AshGrove Christian Church and recently attended the Church of the Nazarene in Moravia.
Hazel is survived by her children, Bonnie (Bob) Prose of Bloomfield, Iowa, Loretta (Fred) DuVall of Moravia, Iowa, Keith (Bonnie) Helmick of Moravia, Iowa, Karol Sue (Dick) Glosser of Unionville, Iowa, Shirley (Colin) Cridlebaugh of Princeton, Missouri, Kaye Glosser of Moravia, Iowa, Richard Helmick of Moravia, Iowa, and Julia Greene of Ottumwa, Iowa; a son-in-law Jack Scott of Moravia, Iowa, a daughter-in-law Anne Helmick of Keokuk, Iowa; thirty grandchildren; seventy great grandchildren; fourteen great, great grandchildren; and a nephew, Gene Ware of Gilman, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Dean Helmick; daughter, Rosetta Scott; sister, Bondenna Ware; son-in-law, Dennis Glosser; grandson-in-law, John Clayworth; two great grandsons, John Allen Crouse and James Colin Crouse.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the Moravia Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Chapman and Pastor Ken Martin officiating. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia, Iowa. A visitation will be held Tuesday at the funeral home with family present from 6-8 PM.
