Hazel Adams' Obituary
Hazel Adams age 87 of Humeston, Iowa, formerly of Cincinnati, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the Circle of Life Hospice in Chariton, Iowa.
Hazel was born on January 9, 1928 in Missouri, the daughter of Lewis Otis and Myrtle (Cormeny) Morgan. She was raised in Cincinnati, where in school she was an avid basketball player; four year varsity starter. She graduated from Cincinnati High School in 1946. She married William (Bill) Adams on February 6, 1954. Through this union, they had four children, Jim, Sharon, Carl and Dennis.
Bill and Hazel owned and operated a Grocery Store connected to their house in Cincinnati from 1964-1967, which was previously owned by the Bill Seals Family. After they stopped operating the store, she went on to work at Baxter Box Company in Centerville. She later worked at McGraw-Edison for a brief period of time. Hazel had many hobbies. She loved to play Hop Scotch with her family, and taught her grandchildren how to play. She loved to play Softball ""Kitten Ball"". She pitched for the women's town team in Cincinnati. She loved to bowl, where she earned numerous trophies. Hazel loved to sew plastic canvas. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Penny Ante Poker and Pitch. She also loved crossword puzzles. Hazel was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cincinnati, Iowa.
She is survived by three children, Jim (Jackie) Adams of Centerville, Sharon (Roger) Lafee of Humeston, and Carl (Joyce) Adams of Cincinnati; Fourteen Grandchildren; Numerous Great Grandchildren; and Eight Great-Great-Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; Ten siblings; and a son, Dennis Adams.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Sharon Johnson officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday at Lange Funeral Home from 9AM-6PM, with the family present from 4-6 PM. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Circle of Life Hospice in Chariton, Iowa, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
