Harold David Stuart's Obituary
Harold 'David' Stuart, age 78, of Centerville, Iowa, died on Monday, December 5, 2011 at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born the son of Orville H. and Eleanor (Lowe) Stuart on July 31, 1933 in Centerville. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1951 and later graduated from Centerville Junior College in 1953.On May 20, 1956, he was united in marriage to Emily Read at the First United Methodist Church in Centerville. Dave worked for Union Carbide, Fuller Manufacturing and Coates and Whitely Chevrolet, before starting his 25 years of service to the United States Postal Service and retiring on October 3, 1992. He was a past Centerville City Councilman. He was active in the Centerville Jaycees, serving as Treasurer, State Director and President. He served several years on the Appanoose County Conservation Board, the Appanoose County Historical Society, and Historic Preservation Commission, for which he drove their trolley and gave many tours of Centerville and Appanoose County. He was a member of Jackson Lodge #42 and served as Master of the Lodge in 1973, he also was a member of Prosperity Lodge of Cincinnati and was lodge Master in 2001. He also, donated his time to the Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Appanoose County Tourism and the Ambassadors.He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Centerville. The church and his family were foremost in his heart. He took great pride in being a part of the Choir. One of his greatest joys was watching all of the kids involved in the Methodist Miracles (M&M's) grow up as he transported them on the Historical Society's Trolley after school, as well as being one of their chaperones. He never met a stranger and would always find a way to start a conversation with a cordial greeting.Dave was preceded in death by: his parents; and a infant brother, Melvin Hilan Stuart.He is survived by: his wife, Emily Stuart of Centerville, Iowa and a son, William D. Stuart of West Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Orvella Wright of Holt Summit, Missouri.Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Centerville with the Rev. Terra Amundson officiating. Burial will follow later in the day at Haines Cemetery north of Centerville.Visitation will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011 from 2 pm until 7 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 5 pm until 7 pm and a Masonic service at 7 pm.Memorial contributions may be given to the M&M's (Methodist Miracles) and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
