Harold "Ray" Warnick's Obituary
Harold "Ray" Warnick, age 78, of Des Moines, formerly of Mystic, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Ray was born on September 17, 1945 in Mystic, Iowa, the son of Willis and Georgetta (Hunt) Warnick. On July 14, 1966, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served his country faithfully, being in Vietnam for a year earning his Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal, as well as the National Defense Service Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation Award. On September 1, 1967, he was promoted to Corporal. Ray was transferred to the Marine Corps Reserve on June 19, 1968. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on March 27, 1972.
After the military, Ray was employed by the United States Postal Service for 28 years before he retired. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with his family.
Left to honor Ray's memory are his children, Scott Warnick and Shawn (Tammy) Warnick; his brothers, John Warnick and Grant Warnick; his sister, Noma Weidner; his grandchildren, Trenton, Wyatt, Emily, Hunter, Conner, Carter, and Landon; as well as numerous extended family and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Georgetta Warnick; his brother, George Warnick; and his grandson, Alexander Warnick.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM, Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Burial will follow the service at Highland Cemetery in Mystic with Military Rites conducted. Visitation will take place Saturday, with the family greeting friends from 11:00AM-1:00PM.
