Harold Arlan Hulme's Obituary
Harold Arlan Hulme, 83 of Centerville passed away Monday, September 23, 2024 at Mercy One - Centerville.
Harry was born to Dale & LaVon (Lage) Hulme in Traer, Iowa on August 4, 1941. Harry received his education from Dinsdale High School, graduating in 1959. After school, Harry enlisted in the United States Navy on July 29, 1959. He served his country in the Navy until his discharge on August 3, 1962. Harry loved to travel. While in the Navy he was fortunate enough to visit many places including: Hong Kong, Japan, Midway Island, Gualda Canal, Australia, Hobart, Tasmania, Singapore, Saigon, Bangkok, Philippines, Asia, and several islands in the Pacific.
Harry moved back to Iowa in 1962 and would start working for John Deere in Waterloo. He worked his entire career at John Deere, retiring in 1993 as a supervisor.
Harry moved to Davis County, Iowa in 1996 and would meet Twyla Schmell in 1998 and later they would unite in marriage on February 10, 2003.
Harry enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, golfing, taking care of the farm, cutting wood, and helping others. He was also known as "Handsome Harry," "HAP," and "Grandpa Duck.
Survivors include his wife, Twyla Hulme, children: Kathleen Hulme (Ken Brown), Kellee Olson, Kerryn Hart (Chris), Julee Barlow (Ken), Tyler Cisler (Jade) and Drew Norton, 13 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, brother, Ronald "Fritz" Hulme, brother & sister-in-law, Sandy and Tracy Thomas and his dog, "Olive".
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Vivian Claussen, brother, Harlan Hulme, sister-in-law, Patty Hulme and brother-in-law, John Claussen.
A celebration of Harry's life will be held at 3:00pm, Sunday, October 6, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Visitation will be two hours prior from 1:00-3:00 pm at the funeral home.
