Harold L. Heckman's Obituary
Harold L. Heckman, age 81, of Centerville, Iowa, died Friday, May 26, 2006, at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville. He was born the son of Frank and Nellie V. (Whicker) Heckman on March 31, 1925 in Jasper, Missouri. He graduated from the Moravia Community Schools in Moravia, Iowa.He served his country during WWII in the US Navy during the 1940's. On September 4, 1953, Harold was united in marriage to Marian J. Doehler in Centerville, Iowa. Harold worked for Mott Construction Company in the 1950's, managed the Carter Waters Haydite Plant till the 1970's when he moved to California for a brief time and later retired and moved back to Centerville in 1988. Harold had many talents and was very active with the Appanoose County Historical Society, and the American Legion Post in Centerville, where he was in charge of the Bingo for many, many years. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion for which he was the Commander for a time, the Appanoose County Historical Society and the Drake Avenue Christian Church all in Centerville.He is preceded in death by; his parents; brother, Winfred Heckman and a sister, Leanne Tomlin.Harold is survived by: his wife, Marian J. Heckman of Centerville, Iowa; daughter, Terri Walljasper and her husband, Dave of Moravia, Iowa; brother, Harley Heckman of Steinhour, Nebraska; grandchildren, Jennifer Elliott of Centerville, and Becky McDonald and her husband, Jake of Centerville and five great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at 10am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Joan White officiating. Burial with full military honors given by Centerville area veterans will be at the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville.
