What fond memories I have of Mr. & Mrs. Driggs, Marsha, Claudia, and Bobby! Not only do I owe my life as a church pianist, organist, and my deep love for music to the entire Driggs family, they were my neighbors and dear friends. When the girls and I wanted to have food (a cabbage head and a jar of salt) when we played house, Mrs. Driggs insisted we had to play the piano first. So Marsha and Claudia would get on one piano and Mrs. Driggs and I would be on the other piano, and we would play duets. The girls weren't too thrilled with having to do it, but it was so exciting for me to be able to sit in front of a grand piano! We'd play hide & seek in their house, and Mrs. Drigss would get frustrated and send us outside where we became horses and galloped back and forth across the hedge dividing properties. And I'll never forget the secret code whistles the girls and I had to get each other to come out and play. I was fortunate to have visited with Mrs. Driggs on the phone a couple of years ago while I was in Iowa visiting my own mother. What a pleasure it was! And what a lasting impression she and her family have left on my life! Posted by Sydney Fox Ashmead October 17, 2007
