Grant Selby's Obituary
Grant Wesley Selby, the oldest child, of Wesley and Sherryl (Jackson) Selby was born April 10, 1970 at the Wayne County Hospital. He passed away at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 40 after a long three-year battle with cancer. Grant graduated from Wayne Community High School in 1988 and went on to graduate in 1992 from Central College at Pella. He was working for Wells Fargo when he became ill. From a very young age Grant couldn't wait to drive a tractor and help farm with his dad. He liked to fish and find mushrooms and would even take time off from work during the mushroom season to hunt his secret spots. He and his dad used to go trapshooting and at a young age he could out shoot many adults. Grant loved to travel. His favorite traveling places were in northeast Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. He would often call Erin and see if she could leave work early so they and their Springer Spaniel, Jake, could take off traveling for the weekend. He especially enjoyed watching the ships in Duluth and canoeing in Ely, Minnesota. Left behind to mourn are his fianc Erin Clifton, who was always there for Grant and made it possible for him to stay in their home, his parents Wesley and Sherryl Selby, sister Angela and husband Matt Bryant, Grimes and brother Jason and wife Jennifer Selby, Ames. Other survivors include his nieces and nephews, Logan, Shaine, Jack and Emilie Bryant, Haley and Natalie Neal and Jason Wesley Selby, many aunts, uncles, cousins, his buddy Jake, and cat Sophie. Preceding him in death were his grandparents Gerald and Denise Selby and Paul and Ethel Jackson, Uncle Gene Salsberry and cousins Matt Selby and Kathy Davis. Burial will be in Richardson Chapel within view of the Selby Farm and the farm where Grant grew up. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Grant Selby please visit our Sympathy Store.
