Grant L. Dusablon, age 76 died on Friday, December 21, 2012, in the Critical Care Unit at Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines following surgery. Grant was born on August 15, 1936, to Alfred R. Dusablon and Hildegarde C. Meyer in Chicago, Illinois. His family moved to his present residence in 1947. He graduated 8th grade from Rathbun School in 1950 and Centerville High School in 1954
He served his country in the Army's 4th Infantry, 8th Cavalry, 2nd Recon. at Ft. Lewis, Washington. After being discharged in 1961 he was recalled by JFK's orders during the Berlin Wall Crisis and spent another year in military service.
On May 22, 1063 he married the love of his life, Rosemary A. Guzzi. Born to this union were God's gift of four special precious children: Melissa, Gregory, Timothy, and Allison.
The majority of his employment was with his father in the transportation field with Dusablon Trucking Service, Inc. In the 1980's he did some general contraqcting work for the Army Corps of Engineers at Rathbun Lake.
He was a Walnut Township Trustee and maintained the Elgin and Shaeffer Cemeteries for a period of time. He loved nature and all its inhabitants. He built bird houses and feeders in his spare time.
The first half of Grants life he was a member of the Lutheran faith and attended the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Centerville and the second half with the Catholic Faith. He had been a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Mystic, IA until it closed in July of 1996, He had served on the Parish Council there. He then became a member of St. Mary's Parish in Centerville, Ia. Faith was an important part of his life which showed in his everyday actions.
Grant courageously fought many insurmountable health issues with a sense of humor and hope. During this time music and reading novels became a solace to him. Life threw him many challenges, but he kept fighting. He will be missed dearly by his wife and children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Hildegarde Dusablon; a sister, Nancy Walker Vonevich, and four brothers-in-law, Mickey Walker, Robert Vonevich, Jim Felton, and Fred Schnelle. He is survived by his wife Rosemary; children at home; Melissa, Gregory, Timothy and Allison. A sister, Cherie Felton Schnelle, and two special cousins, Cherie Tait and Sylvia Chenault, in addition to many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM, Thursday, December 27, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville with Father Bill Hubman officiating. Burial will follow in the Hanes Cemetery in Centerville. A visitation will be held Wednesday at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory from 6- 8 PM. A Prayer Service will be held Wednesday at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory at 7 PM. A memorial has been established to St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Mystic First Responders and may be given to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
