Grace Spurgeon's Obituary
Grace Marie Spurgeon, 101, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Monroe County Care Center in Albia. Grace was born March 17, 1916 in Putnam County, Missouri. She was the third of nine children born to Sid and Mamie (Allen) Morrow. Grace received her education in the Putnam County Schools. On December 22, 1931, Grace was united in marriage to Pearlie Beard. To this union were two children, Duane and Deanna. Grace would marry again after Pearlie's death. On September 2, 1979, Grace was united in marriage to Loyd Spurgeon. Grace was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Herman Church in Chariton, Missouri, where she also taught Sunday school. Grace was employed at JC Penny's in Centerville for years. She was an active member in the United Methodist Women's Group, Rebekah Lodge and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. She was also involved in her quilting group and several community activities. At the age of 80, Grace learned to play Bridge and enjoyed playing with friends and family. Survivors include: son, Duane Beard (Margaret) of Rowlett, TX, daughter, Deanna Wilson (Paul) of Moravia, seven grandchildren: Debbie and Jim Raikes of Mesquite, TX, Vickie Lundquist and Dana Lundquist of The Colony, TX, Kayla Hutto of Rowlett, TX, Doug & Caron Beard of Santa Barbara, CA, Matt Wilson of Altoona, Marla Wilson of Pleasant Hill, IA and Melanie and Jeremy Osborne of Urbandale, 17 great grandchildren, Lauren Ostendorff, Valerie Cozart, Kristen Raikes, Stephen Raikes, Jonathan Raikes, Cory Eoff, Charity Rogers, Brittany Butler, Paxton Lundquist, Jordan Morales, Ryan Hutto, Kaitlyn, Cody, Kelsey, Colby Batterson, Emma Grace and Jacob Osborne, 16 great great grandchildren: Faith and Hope Stonestreet, Skylar, Ashton and Cayson Eoff, Alexa, Kate, Micah Cozart, Aubrey, Ethan, Aaron Ostendorff, David, Joscelyn and Ryker Raikes, Michelle Hutto and Tessie Hutto. Funeral service will be 1:30 pm, Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Rev. Christy Ehrle officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Mt. Herman Cemetery near Chariton, Missouri. Visitation will be prior to the funeral from 12-1:30 pm. Memorials may be given to Mt.
