Gladys R. Joiner's Obituary
Gladys Rae Joiner, age 80, of Plano, Iowa, died Sunday, September 6, 2015, at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Ray and Myra (Willson) Cole on October 4, 1934 in Seymour, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from the Seymour High School. She loved the game of basketball and played in two state tournaments for Seymour continuing the Cole legacy.On August 5, 1951, Gladys was united in marriage to Royce Deo Joiner in Davenport, Iowa. She enjoyed helping Royce with the farming. She also worked at Wright Hardware in Seymour, Country Village Lumber Company, and at one time, owned and operated the family grocery store in Plano. Later, she worked at Crescent Electric and as a bookkeeper for Joiner Construction. She was a member of the Plano Christian Church in Plano. She enjoyed playing cards, Cribbage, watching football games, playing with her grandchildren and visiting her sisters and brother.She is preceded in death by: her parents, Ray and Myra Cole; her son-in-law, Douglas Housh; sisters, Jeanette Cole, Marie Reed, Ona Blair, and Lois Walston; a brother, Robert Cole.Gladys is survived by: her husband, Royce Joiner of Plano, Iowa; sons, Rodney Joiner and his wife, Amy of Plano, Iowa and Robbie Joiner and his wife, Terri of Carlisle, Iowa; daughters, Nancy Joiner of Des Moines, Iowa and Cindy Housh of Carlisle, Iowa; Ten grandchildren, Chad Muck and his wife, Crystal of Prairie City, Iowa, Brandi Squires of Des Moines, Iowa, Andy Joiner and his wife, Natasha of Centerville, Iowa, Zeb Joiner and his wife, Danielle of Plano, Iowa, Mellissa Housh of Des Moines, Iowa, Ryan Housh and his wife, Heather of Des Moines, Iowa, Hillery Joiner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kyle Joiner of Ames, Iowa, Trevor Joiner of Decorah, Iowa and Cortney Joiner of Carlisle, Iowa; Thirteen great grandchildren and One great great grandchild; her sisters, Nancy Litwiller Norfolk, Virginia, Margaret Sullins of Casey, Iowa and Jessie Davis of Seymour, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Glide Cole of Texas; Pauline Golick of Centerville, Iowa and Marilyn Koehler of Udell, Iowa; along with several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Plano Christian Church in Plano, Iowa with Revs Michael McKissick and Marilyn Koehler officiating. Burial will follow in the Crossroads Cemetery near Plano. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 2 pm until 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with the family present from 5 pm until 7 pm.Memorials can be made to either HCI Care Services or to Appanoose Community Housing and left or mailed to the funeral home.
