Gerturde May Cooksey's Obituary
Gertrude May Cooksey, age 84, of Centerville, Iowa and a former Moulton, Iowa resident, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of William McKinley and Elizabeth (Campbell) Horton on January 1, 1925 at Coatsville, Missouri. She attended the Hilltown School.On September 7, 1940, Gertrude was united in marriage to Cyrus Cooksey in Lancaster, Missouri. She was a homemaker in Moulton.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Cyrus Cooksey on October 29, 1987; son, Jerry Cooksey; daughter, Linda Abbott; grandson, John Wayne Hicks; and a great grandson, Cyrus Opperman; brothers, Mac, Price Lee and Noble Horton; and a sister, Dorothy Downing.Gertrude is survived by: her daughters, Joan Swinscoe and her husband, Harold of Tucson, Arizona and Mary Knowles and her husband, Keith of Livonia, Missouri; a brother, Willard Horton of Columbus, Georgia; and a sister, Daisy Stufflebeam of Galesburg, Illinois; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 10 am at the United Methodist Church in Moulton, Iowa with Rev. Jim Schweizer officiating. Burial to follow at the Hilltown Cemetery south of Moulton. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2009 from 1 pm till 8 pm with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton, Iowa.
