Gertrude Whisler's Obituary
Gertrude Whisler, age 84 of Centerville died Sunday night, April 10, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center, Centerville.
Mrs. Whisler was born July 1, 1920 at Moline, IL, the daughter of George Dokos and Gertrude Anders Dokos. Gertrude was raised in Bunch Iowa by Olive Anders Paris. She was married to Wade (Fid) Whisler in Lancaster, MO in 1937, he preceded her in death in 1996. She spent most of her life as a homemaker, but did work at McGraw Edison, owned the West End Grocery in Bloomfield, and with her husband started Tiki Marine. She loved her family, playing with the grandkids, watching the birds and working in her Kitchen.
She is survived by three children, Ronald Whisler and his wife Sandy of Bakersfield, CA, Jean Sprouse of Centerville, Dan Whisler and his wife Nancy of Springfield, MO, 10 grand children, 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a stillborn son Jerry, and a daughter Deborah Stevens and her parents.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM Thursday afternoon at the Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Gerald Campbell officiating. Friends may call Wednesday at the Thomas Lange Funeral home, Centerville with the family present from 6-8 PM. Burial will be in the Hanes Cemetery, north of Centerville. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Crisis Center and Women's Shelter in Ottumwa, Iowa.
