Gertrude Lary's Obituary
Gertrude Lary, age 92, of Centerville, Iowa, died Monday, December 5, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of John and Lulu (Hankins) Searl on July 9, 1913 in Corning, Iowa. She graduated from the Jameson, Missouri Community Schools in 1931, and later received a teaching degree in 1963 from Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri.On December 25, 1938, Gertrude was united in marriage to Delaine Lary in Jameson, Missouri. The couple farmed together in the Jameson area for many years before she began her teaching career that lasted nearly 30 years. In April of 1999 they moved to Centerville, Iowa to be near their daughter and she later became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Centerville.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Delaine Lary on November 25, 2002; brother, Jack Searl; sisters, Helen Cole, Maurine Holmstedt, Kathryn Lowe, Clair Pryor and Jean Searl.Gertrude is survived by: her daughters, Verda Hyland and her husband, Don of Smithville, Missouri and Suzanne Lary of Centerville, Iowa and 2 grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 10:30 am at the First United Methodist Church in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Dianne Christopher officiating. Burial will be at 2 pm at the Hickory Creek Cemetery near Jameson, Missouri. Open visitation will be held on Friday, December 9, 2005 from 1 till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa.
