Geri Greenlee's Obituary
Geraldine Alice Greenlee, 92 of Corydon passed away February 25, 2019 at Corydon Specialty Care. Geri was born on December 24, 1926 in Corydon to Charlie & Letha (Beam) Greenlee. She received her education from Allerton High School graduating in 1944. Geri would further her education receiving a BSPE in Physical Education & Dance in 1952, MA in Physical Education & Dance in 1958 and a PhD in Physical Education in 1971 from the University of Oregon. Geri taught at the high school level from 1952-57 then started teaching at Carthage College, Carthage, Ill from 1958-1963, State University of New York from 1963-1968, Illinois State University from 1970-1988 and one year at Iowa State University in 1988 before her retirement. Geri enjoyed playing golf, bowling, collecting US postage stamps and old post cards. Geri traveled to every state in the United States as a birder to see native birds to their specific region. She also traveled abroad to Scotland, where presented papers on kinesiology at the Highland Games, she also found her way to Canada, Australia, Mexico and Belize. In the 1960's Geri was a part of a team who developed an anatomical suitable boot for the US Army. After her professional career ended, Geri spent many summers in the Wayne County cemeteries updating the directories to make them more accurate for genealogy. Geri had a lifelong passion for genealogy on both sides of her family. She presented family members with bound copies not to many years ago. She also enjoyed helping in senior residence centers until her health would no longer allow her to work. Survivors include nephews: Rick Greenlee (Lisa), Joe Greenlee (JoAnn), sister-in-law, Jackie Greenlee and numerous extended family. She was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Wayne Greenlee and her parents. Geri has donated her body to science and no services are planned at this time.
