Gerald Dean Grimes' Obituary
Gerald Grimes of Corydon passed away on May 9, 2021 at the age of 81.
Gerald Dean Grimes was born on July 31, 1939 in Cambria, Iowa to Keith and Margaret (Wilson) Grimes. He attended school in Wayne County and graduated from Cambria High School in 1958. After high school Gerald joined the Army and was honorably discharged in 1963.
Gerald was united in marriage to Shirley Haussermann on September 7, 1969 at the Methodist Church in Bloomington, Nebraska. To this union three sons were born: Brian, Chris, and Timothy. Gerald worked as a heavy equipment operator driving a road grader for Wayne County for thirty years. He also owned and operated Grimes Repair since 1976, where he spent many hours repairing lawn mowers. Gerald loved to visit with people, he never knew a stranger. Gerald and Shirley attended the Russell Baptist Church.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents Keith and Margaret Grimes, sisters: Margaret Searby and Peggy Grimes, and brothers: Larry and Jerry Grimes.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, sons: Brian Grimes (Christine), Chris Grimes (Christine), and Timothy Grimes, grandchildren: Olivia Dykes (Dustin), Logan, Geremiah, Tiffney, and Katherine Grimes, and Emma Anderson, sisters: Virginia Bettis (Gaylon) and Louise Pence (Bob), brothers: John Grimes (Nancy) and Jim Grimes (JoAnn), and brother-in-law Earl Searby and numerous extended family members and friends.
Funeral service will be Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon with Pastor Terry Wilhite officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at the Allerton Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home.
