Gerald Becker's Obituary
Gerald Olen Becker, age 87, of Corydon passed away on October 19, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Gerald was born on March 22, 1930 to Chester and Lula (Swan) Becker south of Bethlehem in Wayne County, Iowa. He attended school at several one room schoolhouses in Wayne County and graduated from Corydon High School with the class of 1947. He served his country in the Korean War, spending 17 months overseas. Gerald was united in marriage to Geraldine Morrison on February 4, 1955 in Russell, Iowa. To this union two children, Kurt and Kathy, were born. He started out working in carpentry, dozing for the Davis brothers and Jerry O'Dell, then farming and trucking. Gerald was a member of the American Legion in Corydon, and attended the Corydon Assembly of God Church and Sanctuary Church in Corydon. He enjoyed family get togethers, church activities, watching football, custom baling hay, and spending time with his "best friend" Jack (his dog). Gerald is survived by his loving wife Geraldine Becker, son Kurt Becker (Cheryl), daughter Kathy Moorman (Gary), grandchildren: Keith Becker (Carolyn), Shara Head (Brad), Carrie Kleis (Dean), Tim Coates, Jamie Coates, Joe Coates (Amanda), Nick Moorman (Leslie), Andy Moorman, 18 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, sister in law Gloria Becker and many other family and friends, including his "best friend" Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Oral, brother Oren, and sister Darlene Montgomery. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon with Pastor Jim Resa officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, October 23, 2017 with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
