George Zaputil's Obituary
George Zaputil, 92, of Centerville passed away Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Homestead in Centerville. George was born on January 1, 1924 in Diamond, Iowa to Slavo and Filipina (Tijan) Zaputil. He went to Diamond Elementary School and Mystic High School, graduating in 1942. George joined the US Navy and served until 1946. On May 3, 1947, George married Betty Fister. To this union came three children; Linda, David and Cindy. Also in 1947, George started Mystic Block Company. After selling that business he worked for Mystic Lumber until he retired. He and Betty also raised cattle on their farm. George enjoyed his family, spending time with his siblings, playing the guitar, visiting Branson, being on the farm and his beloved Forbush. George was always a cut up and made sure everyone around him left laughing. Survivors include three children; Linda Brown of San Tan Valley, AZ, David Zaputil (Marcia) of Moravia, Cindy Cipolli (Thomas) of West Burlington, six grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a sister, Annie Cerniglia of San Diego, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty Zaputil on December 19, 2015, sister, Mary Zaputil, brothers; John, Tom, John, Milton, Joe, Tony, William and Frank Zaputil and a son in law, David Brown. Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Thomas Funeral Home with Fr. Bill Hubbman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
