Gary Franklin Everman's Obituary
Gary Franklin Everman, 76 passed away Monday, June 23, 2025 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, IA.
Gary was born to Gerald Franklin and Alta Marie (Stewart) Everman in Corydon, IA on August 6, 1948. He attended the ACL High School and graduated with the class of 1966. After graduation he served in the Army during Vietnam where he was stationed in Germany.
Gary then went on to attend Indian Hills Community College then NE MO State University for four years where he received his degree in teaching. He taught in the St. Louis, MO school system and then subbed for many local schools in southern Iowa.
Gary carried on his father's love of cattle farming. A perfect day for Gary would be walking the farm viewing his cattle he was so proud of, then headed to town for breakfast, coffee and his friends.
Gary loved all things sports especially baseball and softball. He played on many teams until he decided to coach and then umpire. He was popular as on ump with our local coaches and several colleges. Gary was a firm believer in family and remained close to his brother, nieces and nephews. He enjoyed popping into a niece's softball game but, would claim he was there for the hot dogs because they always tasted better at a game. Gary enjoyed spoiling his great nieces and nephews by leaving them a large pumpkin or watermelon at their homes.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Faith Marie Squire; siblings, Stewart (Nancy) Everman, Lois (Charles) Hays; brother-in-law, John Ziemba, all of his beloved nieces, nephews and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Frances Ziemba.
A Celebration of Life for Gary will be held at a later date. Memorials made be made to the Allerton Baseball Field and mailed to Thomas Funeral Home Attn: Everman Family 303 E. Jefferson Corydon, Iowa 50060. Condolences may be shared on our website at www.thomasfh.com or facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
