Gary Charles Elliott's Obituary
Gary Elliott, age 66, of Seymour , Iowa , died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at his home with his loving family around him. He was born the son of Forest and Marian (Simons) Elliott on March 17, 1943 in Centerville , Iowa . He graduated from Seymour High School in 1961 and attended Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville , Missouri for one year. On July 8, 1962, Gary was united in marriage to Karen Landgrebe in Mystic, Iowa . He farmed south of Seymour most of his life and was a member of the Corydon Bible Church in Corydon , Iowa . He accepted Christ as his personal Savior during his teenage years at a revival meeting at the Franklin Baptist Church in rural Appanoose County . Gary was actively involved in the following church ministries: Trustee, Choir, AWANA leader for 20 years, Nursing Home ministry at Seymour and Corydon, and Teen Ministry, often sharing the devotions for these ministries. His hobbies and interests included watching all of his children and grandchildren play sports, playing cards, rebuilding cars and trucks, tractor pulls, farming, and being with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by: his father, Forest Elliott in December of 1963; grandparents, Arch and Jessie Elliott and Charles and Edith Simons. Gary is survived by: his wife, Karen Elliott of Seymour, Iowa; his mother, Marian Janss of Longmont, Colorado; his brother, Forest (Junior) and his wife Nasim Elliott of Huntington Beach, California; his daughters, Cindy and her husband, Dan Beenken of Jefferson, Iowa, Sonya and her husband, Kevin Graumenz of St. Charles, Missouri and Jennifer and her husband, Roland Johnson of Gladstone, Missouri; sons, Jeffrey and his wife, Penny Elliott of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Justin Boggs of Seymour, Iowa (who Gary and Karen helped raise in their home); grandchildren, Jessica, Janette and Aaron Elliott, Ryan and Amber Beenken, Kevin II, Kyle and Kari Graumenz, Caitlyn Elliott, Chiara and Creshaun Johnson; along with several nieces and nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 1 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville , Iowa with his son, Pastor Jeffrey Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at the Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour , Iowa . Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 from 1 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm. Memorials can be made to the Deer Run Chapel of Crossville, TN, where his son pastors. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
