Gary Lee Campbell's Obituary
Gary Lee Campbell, age 85, of Centerville, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2025 at Centerville Specialty Care.
Gary was born on February 17, 1940 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Gerald and Dorothy (Biggie) Campbell. After high school graduation, he attended a year of college. He was married to Margaret Pittsenberger for a period of time, and to this union, five children were born, Terry, Timothy, Mindy, Michael, and Lee. The couple later divorced.
Gary worked as a manager at Walgreens in Davenport for several years before moving back to southern Iowa. He then worked at the battery plant in Corydon for a period of time. Gary ended his working career at other local factories including Curwood in Centerville, where he retired.
On August 10, 1985, Gary was united in marriage to Cheryle Lee (Johnson) Pickens. In his free time, he enjoyed coon and deer hunting, target shooting, dogs, and fishing, especially going up north to trout fish.
Left to honor Gary's memory are his wife of 40 years, Cheryle Campbell; his children, Mindy Shoush, Michael Campbell, and Lee Campbell; his grandchildren, T.J. Campbell, Ryan Campbell, Jordan Campbell, Megan Furgal, Dylan Campbell, Dakota Robertson, Blaise Robertson, Jacob Campbell, Bradlee Campbell, Brendan Davis and Mallory Davis; several grandchildren including the closest to him, Kelvin, Rowan and Annali; his ex-wife, Margaret Campbell; as well as several extended family members and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Campbell and Dorothy Mueller; and his children, Terry Campbell and Timothy Campbell.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 12, 2025 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 11:00AM-1:00PM. Burial will follow the visitation at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree in memory of Gary.
