Gary Dewayne Barrell's Obituary
Gary D. Barrell Sr., 78 of Centerville passed away peacefully with his wife by his side Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Centerville Specialty Care.
Gary was born on July 15, 1944 in Centerville to Robert & Velta (Agan) Barrell. He received his education graduating from Seymour High School in 1962. Gary was united in marriage to Carroll McVeigh in November of 1964. To this union came five children: Gary Jr., Jody, Bob, Richard and Jessica. After Carroll's passing in 1982, Gary remarried Dorothy Douglas on September 3, 1988 and gained 5 more children; David, Russell, Adam, Connie and Brenda.
Gary was employed by John Deere in Ottumwa, Iowa for 28 years until his retirement in 2001. He farmed his entire life which was his passion. He loved taking care of his cattle. He also liked coon hunting, fishing (hand picking) and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Everyone knows that Gary was a hard worker and enjoyed his sweets.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Barrell, children: Gary Barrell Jr., Jody (Randy) Walker, Bob Barrell, Richard Barrell, Jessica (Dustin) Glosser, David Elarton, Russell (Helen) Elarton, Connie (Jerry) Susin, Brenda (Andy) Lancial, 25 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; siblings: Shirley (Bob) Tomlinson, Sharon (Don) Phelps, Donnie (Marilyn) Barrell, Rodger (Janie) Barrell, Carma (Bill) Morrow and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carroll Barrell, parents, brother Perry Barrell, sister Darlene Miller, son Adam Elarton, grandchildren: Eric Elarton, Mark Elarton and Josh Susin.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Interment will immediately follow at Highland Cemetery in Mystic. Visitation will be all day Wednesday with the family present from 5-7 pm at Thomas Funeral Home.
