Fredrick Wayne Goben's Obituary
Fredrick Wayne Goben, son of Walter and Mary (Grove) Goben, was born on January 15, 1931 in Lucas County. Wayne passed away on January 4, 2022 in Hospice care at the Parkridge Care Center in Pleasant Hill, Iowa.
Wayne grew up in southern Iowa and graduated from Cambria High School in 1949. He was united in marriage to his best friend, Roma Radcliff, on June 10, 1949. To this union, four children were born, Waynette, Steve, Mark, and Doug.
Wayne was a member of the Mason's, Oddfellows, and the Humeston Lions Club. He farmed for most of his life. In the 1980's, Roma and Wayne moved off the farm and into Humeston to open their insurance business with Farmers Insurance. He worked for many years as a claims adjuster, a career he took very seriously and was very passionate about.
In 2019, Wayne and Roma moved from their home in Humeston to Assisted Living at the Homestead in Osceola, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Roma; children, Steve Goben (Avis) of Chariton, Mark Goben (Dinah) of Altoona, and Doug Goben (Denise) of Corydon; grandchildren, Stacey Lawson (Kenny), Bree Young, James Goben (Darlene), Tim Goben (Ginger), Sheila Roberts (Dan), Andrew Goben (Mary), Jake Goben (Cheri), Cole Goben (Jennifer), Sadie Draper (Brett); 19 great-grandchildren, Christina, DJ, Breeanne, Josh, Aaron, Daniel, Ben, Steven, Gavin, Benton, Ava, Morgan, Thatcher, Emaline, Loretta, Leah, Maverick, Savannah, and Wyatt; 2 great- great-grandchildren, Annie and Jaxon; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. He is also survived by his siblings, Dwight Goben (Betty), Evelyn Bennett, Pearlene Hull, and Glenn Goben, as well as sisters-in-law, Linda Greenlee (Roy) and Geannie Radcliff.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mary Goben; his daughter, Waynette Oldham; his brothers, Gerald Goben and Jim Goben (Evelyn); brothers-in-law, Carl Bennett and Dale Hull; sisters-in-law, Genevieve Sharp (Dewey), Carol Ray (Byron), and Larry Radcliff; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Otha and Ila Radcliff.
Funeral service for Wayne will be held at the Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM. Interment will directly follow service at the Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will take place an hour prior to service, beginning at 10:00 AM.
