Frederick Horn's Obituary
Frederick D. Horn age 81, of Moulton, Iowa passed away June 22nd, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa after undergoing surgery due to a fall at home. He was born the son of Fred and Blanche (Bybee) Horn on a farm near Moulton on November 11th, 1928 and lived locally his entire life. He graduated from Moulton High school in 1946. After graduating, he served time in the Army and received an honorable discharge during the Korean War. Fred was united in marriage to Joyce Ann West on December 19th, 1954 in Moulton, Iowa and after her passing was united in marriage to Dorla Piatt on November 11th, 1983 in Moulton, Iowa. Fred worked the family farm for many years and later worked for the City of Moulton and Rathbun Regional Water Association. He was a member of the American Legion. Fred loved the outdoors, fishing, bowling, old western movies, spending time with his familyâ?¦.and cake.He is preceded in death by: first wife, Joyce Horn on April 10th, 1982; brothers, Dean and Glenn Horn.Fred is survived by his wife Dorla Horn of Moulton Iowa; daughters, Denise Huff and Rob Alongi of Columbia, Missouri and Diane and Wayne Coleman of Columbia, Missouri; son, Roger and his wife, Pat Horn of Bloomington, Illinois, stepson; Ron and his wife, Susan Daniels of Chillicothe, Missouri; step-daughter, Sonya and her husband, Steve McKaig of Raleigh, North Carolina; and a sister, Helen Garrett of Inglewood, California. He had 9 grandchildren, Mindy Huff, Jennifer and Janelle Fitzwater, Lucas and Evan Horn, Tiffany Danley, Felicia Daniels and Lauren and Erin Jones. He also had 5 great grandchildren as well as many nephews.Graveside Services will be held Friday, June 25, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Sunset View Cemetery near Moulton, Iowa with Walter Burnett officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors by the American Legion Post 280 Burl McClure. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 24, 2010 from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM and family will be present on Friday June 25, 2010 from 9:00 AM till time of service at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton, Iowa. Memorials have been established to the First Responders in Moulton, Iowa and can be mailed to or left at the funeral home.
