Freda Hornaday's Obituary
Freda Lucille Hornaday, 88, passed away on August 1, 2017 at the Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines. Freda was born on February 11, 1929 in Udell, Iowa to the late William and Mary (Petefish) Gorden. After graduating Udell High School in 1947, Freda married Milford Hornaday on January 30, 1949 and to this union, seven children were born. Freda was a loving mother and wife as well as a devoted homemaker. She enjoyed leading 4-H with her husband, quilting, playing the piano and organ for her church, cooking, playing her violin, gardening and canning, reading and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also assisted the Girl Scouts with a uniform exchange and enjoyed animals. Freda is survived by her son, Steven Hornaday of Sumter, South Carolina; daughters: Janice (Dean) Anderson of New Virginia, Iowa, Barbara (Bill) Haggard of Port Byron, Illinois, Ruth Ewing of Patterson, Iowa and Rita Hornaday of Hampton, Illinois; grandchildren: Mike Haggard, Jason (Brenda) Anderson, Jenny (Brian) Peterson, Adam (Meghan) Ewing and Drew, Alex and Jordan Hanson; eight great grandchildren: Kylee and Konner Haggard, Jacob Hanson, Allison, Abbie and Austin Peterson and Bridgette and Dylan Ewing. She is also survived by her sister, Eunice Martinson of Perry, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milford in 2011, daughters: Kathryn and Julie Hornaday; grandsons: Ricky Haggard and Christopher Senn and her great granddaughter, Brenna Haggard. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Interment will immediately follow the service at Fairview Cemetery in Unionville, Iowa.
